How to Prepare For CSAT (Pre)

The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) includes two objective type question papers of two hundred marks and two hours time duration for each paper. One is on General Studies and the other is General Aptitude Paper( which has now replaced the optional subject that was there earlier). With the Civil Service exam having very limited seats it’s a very difficult exam to crack. Many students appear multiple times to clear it.
Changes in formats of question papers always tend to create a lot of mental discomfort in students. Many students are fearful of subjects like mathematics. This fear may be baseless considering the changes lay greater emphasis on the “aptitude” which mainly involves reasoning skills and not just mathematics.
The civil services examination is basically a test to choose suitable administrators. It tests the candidate right from the stage when one starts the preparation. One common misconception about the prelims is that it is a test of facts and figures. That was never so and specially now. A candidate should have the right frame of mind and the will power to succeed in the exam. A proper action plan is needed for the preparation itself since he /she will be tested for some essential qualities like power of retention, clarity of concepts, ability to identify the correct alternatives with efficiency and accuracy. All this requires a quick decision making power.
With the new pattern, more stress is on language skills and analysis and decision making capacities, so work on these on a consistent basis as these are skills that are developed over years and not just in a few months. It would be advisabble to start focusing on your problem solving and language skills as sooon as you decide to take these exams.
Paper 1 - General Studies
This includes areas like
Indian National Movement, Indian Polity, Basic Economic Understanding, Geography
While the dynamic part includes current affairs, GK and has no proper definition and syllabus making quite vast.

Paper 2 - Aptitude

includes English comprehension, mathematics, reasoning, analytical ability, and interpersonal skills. Unlike paper 1 which has a static part this paper provides no such respite.
Unlike paper 1 where quantity of questions is a major determinant for the static section paper 2 cannot be tamed without solving quality questions, though few in number Since the preliminary exam in particular is a test of endurance the candidate needs to prepare himself on the physical as well as mental level. The main constraint is the time one gets to answer questions. On an average one gets around 40 seconds for each question. Added to this time constraint is the fact that the exam is conducted in the month of May which is usually the hottest month all over the country. Most of the centres for the exam do not have proper facilities which adds to the stress. One sure way of dealing with this stress is to count numbers or to take a few deep breaths. Meditation and Yoga also help in dealing with stress to a great extent.
Now we come to the actual preparation for the prelims exam. Since it is a multiple choice question paper, it needs a different preparation and a proper strategy. The first thing a candidate needs to bear in mind is that the examination is designed to evaluate certain qualities like a sharp memory and basic retention power. There are ways to increase one's memory like preparing charts. One gets confused when faced with mind boggling facts and figures. Important facts and figures can be simplified and represented on charts and they can arranged in the form of tables or graphs. Another thing to remember is to make short and brief notes on each topic so that the entire syllabus can be revised a day before the exam.
It is better to use diagrams and link words which make it easier to understand difficult concepts. One more technique to help in retaining information is the use of abbreviations. Since the syllabus involves exhaustive information abbreviations help you to remember it better. It is a good method to remember dates, facts and figures in a picture format and to break up complex names and places into smaller and simpler words. The last and the most important technique is doing regular revision. This helps in retaining the maximum information. A separate time slot should be given to doing not only regular but multiple revisions like daily, weekly, monthly etc.
Many candidates make a mistake of overloading themselves with lots of information and end up remembering nothing. One should be able to differentiate between relevant and irrelevant information. Since the preliminary exam is an elimination round the candidate should also learn to focus only on the information needed and filter out the rest. It helps to discuss with friends and teachers but the most reliable way is to solve past years question papers. One should also keep abreast with current events and information related to them.
An important thing to remember is that for this exam it is just enough to remember information but to understand the concepts well instead of memorizing facts and figures. The questions asked are of 10+2 level. Therefore emphasis has to be on conceptual clarity. Any concept has to be understood with its origin, merits and de-merits, then it needs to be analysed with other relevant topics and lastly it has to be correlated with the events that have taken place during the year.
The preliminary exam requires candidates who have the acumen and the ability to choose the right option of many given options. This needs a proper method of elimination. It is a good idea to go through previous years and model question papers and solve as many as possible. Taking a mock test of a certain number of G.S. questions and mathematics and general ability questions would be a good practice and help to pick out the most appropriate option.
Each prelims paper is for two hours but a lot of time is wasted in signing attendance sheets etc, therefore there is a lot of need for effective Time Management not only for the exam but in the preparation as well. It is not enough to know the right answer but it has to be marked correctly on the answer sheet. Speed and Accuracy are important, so solving model question papers on a regular basis would be a great help.
A good presence of mind is needed to eliminate the least appropriate options and arrive at the right one. However beware of negative marking so it is better to mark only sure shot answers than making guesses.
Throughout the preparation for the prelims exam, it is important to remember that any topic or concept should not be studied in isolation. It is better to understand and establish a correlation between related concepts from other subjects and current events and happenings.
Even with all this preparation, it is necessary to have a positive attitude and a great amount of will power to succeed to achieve your goal, that of getting through the civil services examination with flying colors!

द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के मध्य एक बार इंग्लैंड के सैनिको के लिए चीनी की आवयश्कता हुई। देश मे चीनी का अभाव था शासन ने विज्ञप्ति की कि जिन व्यक्तियों के पास अतिरिक्त हो वे कृपा करके राशन के दफ्तर मे जमा करा दे, अगले ही दिन प्रात राशन के दफ्तर के सामने चीनी जमा करने वालो कि लम्बी लाइन लगी हुई थी। अगले ही दिन इंग्लैंड के सैनिको के पास अपेक्षित मात्रा मे चीनी पहुँच गयी। सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्व का निर्वाह राष्ट्रीयचरित्र का एक अत्यंत आवयश्क लक्षण है।
इस परिप्रेक्ष्य मे हम यदि भारतवासियो के व्यव्हार पर विचार करेगें, तो हमको निराश ही होना पड़ेगा, भारत-चीन एवं भारत-पाकिस्तान के युद्धों के मध्य अनेक भारतवासिओं ने चीन एवं पाकिस्तान को तस्करी द्वारा भोजन सामग्री भेजी थी तथा जासूसी कि थी। ऐतिहासिक दृष्टी से भारत मे विदेशी आक्रमणकारियो को भारतवासी ही आमंत्रित करते रहे है यानि चांदी के चंद टुकडो के लिए देशद्रोह करते हुए कुछ भारतीयों को तनिक भी संकोच नहीं हुआ यदि कोई व्यक्ति यह कहने लगे कि स्वार्थपरता एवं देशद्रोह भारत का राष्ट्रीय चरित्र है, तो हमको अपने दुर्भाग्य पर दो आंसू बहा लेने चाहिए, विदेशी प्राय: यह बात कहते है कि भारत जयचंदों एवं मीरजाफरो का देश है, इन्हें गुलाम बनाना बहुत आसन है, दूसरी और हमारे समाज मे प्रत्येक स्तर पर व्याप्त भ्रष्टाचार एवं अनैतिक आचरण को देखकर एक विदेशी पत्रकार ने लिखा था कि भारत के बारे लिखना अपराधियों के बारे मे लिखना है, हम स्वयं विचार करे किहम राष्ट्रीय चरित्र के नाम पर किस प्रकार कि छवि प्रस्तुत करते है?
आप विचारक "Smiles "के इस कथन से सहमत होंगे कि "Day light can be seen through small holes,so little thing will illustrate a person's character." अर्थात का प्रकाश छोटे छोटे छेदों से मे होकर देखा जा सकता है, इसी प्रकार व्यवहार कि छोटी-छोटी बातें व्यक्ति के चरित्र को प्रकट कर देती है। उक्त सन्दर्भ मे हमको विचार करना चाहिए कि हमारा व्यक्तिगत आचरण राष्ट्र कि छवि को किस रूप मे उजागर करने वाला hai

A ship sailing in the high seas will get nowhere if it is directionless and doesn't know the destination towards which it is moving. The same is the case with our young men and women who are directionless and don't know the purpose for which they are bestirring themselves. Success comes only to those who have a fixed objective in their lives and move toward it in a systematic and methodical way. The Society itself can gain only from those person who have a sense of mission in their lives and tread the path of honesty, integrity and uprightness. These factors alone constitute the wrap and woof of great accomplishments in the part of individuals and the society.
It is distressing to note that in our country,there is continuous increases in acts of violence which manifests in different forms, viz.,greed, envy,avarice,jealousy,hatred,power seeking etc. resulting in exploitation, torture,killing, rape,kidnapping etc. Does any of us try to know as to why such things are happening in this land of Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, whom the world calls the apostles of peace? If we were to consider carefully about it, we would come to the conclusion that the fault lies within us; our attitude towards our life and living is the cause of all the ills and sufferings. For our misfortune, and misery,we are to blame ourselves, and not any outside person or agency.
A little pondering will give us the answer as to why, just a few years ago, this did not happen or conditions in the society were much better i.e. more peaceful, more harmonious, more congenial,and more assuring. It can safely be said that in the so called immediate past, living was simple and serene. Functions were held in an atmosphere of affection and joy. Today, everything seems to have changed and becoming quite different. Living has become complex and function cannot be held with without police protection and one one is always apprehensive as to what may happen the next moment, so much so,that our examinations can be conducted only under the shadow of the latish and barrels of police force.
It is a paradoxical situation that everyone is interested in giving highest education to everyone, but everyone is not interested in getting the maximum benefits of education. There is There is very little interest in utilizing the benefits of learning together in peace, in harmony and in an atmosphere of fellowship. The objective of education is seems to have shrunk to enable the student to earn money by hook or by crook, to go ahead even by pushing and pulling back his or her companions.Education has been made to have a very limited purpose-the purpose of acquiring pelf and power and that too by the shortest rout and cut-throat methods.The most unfortunate part of this paradoxical situation is that the elite of the society encourage this tendency and give protection to the wrong doers.
The Great thinker and social workers talk of bringing formal education to each and every doors because they think that this would fight out the devils of ignorance and poverty and teach our children to lead a comfortable life in an honest way.
Education has made you what you are and the end of your life is not merely getting knowledge but to put knowledge to beneficial purposes.
But this cannot happen unless you know why you are spending the best years of your life in a college or a university and what is the aim of your life after you have finished your education. That would make you more devoted to your education, and develop a better sense of duty and responsibility.

life is journey through a series of incarnations. We have come a long way,We have got to go a long way.
The word journey brings to one's mind a goal to be reached and a path to be traversed. The trio of destination,road and movement ever go together, and each has a significance in relation to the other two.
We have developed the notion of separateness,forgetting that there is one force flowing in everything from the biggest planet to the tiniest particle. In such a universe there is no sharp division between the animate and inanimate, the living and the dead. The great philosopher American Author "Emerson" has written that "God reappears with all his parts in every moss and cobweb".
Therefor, when we use energy, we are using the one energy, which all have in common, the energy of the immanent. In this context, these words of the great scientist 'Albert Einstein' are of very great importance "A human being is a part of the whole, called by us the Universe".
The Time for breaking up the shell must come in everybody's life, the personality with all its spikes must be shattered; we must be prepared or willing to undergo that process just as the chestnut does. We can tread on the path until we have, in some measure, rid ourselves of personal idiosyncrasies. for such experience and its impact requisite sensitivity is required , so, one such goal, as referred to above, could be the gaining of sensitivity at all levels, the physical, the astral, the mental. we can see for ourselves how increased sensitivity, even at the physical level, leads an artist to the treasures hidden in nature, denied to the common man.
To grow in sensitivity is to grow in perception. Right perception alone can lead us to right living. for this, we need refinement ans sensitivity of our astral and mental bodies, which are our vehicles for our emotions and thoughts. The free flow of life brings us face to face with the truth, which is wisdom. Truth has to do with relationship in the universe, which comes with wider vision and perception of wholeness.
One such route,Leading to the goal may be the worship of omnipresent God. But then, what is meant by god? God was invented to designate the unknown cause of those effects, which man either admired or dreaded without understanding them.As mentioned in 'Iris unveiled' a man can have no god that is not bounded by his own human conception. The wider the sweep of one's spiritual vision, the mightier will be his deity or God. The concept of personal God has often led to many a distortion and fulfillment of self interest.This aspect of deity has been defined as 'Ignorance created God and cunning took advantage of it'. But in place of personal God,if we try to perceive impersonal God, the whole aspect may change. There is one indivisible and absolute omniscience and intelligence in the universe and this throbs throughout cosmos, every atom,and infinitesimal point of the whole finite cosmos which has no bounds. Those, who worship before it, ought to do so in silence and in the sanctified solitude of their souls, making their good action the only priests, and their sinful inventions the only sacrificial victims. This would give the worshiper the requisite sensitivity, susceptibility to grow in vision perception.
It is in this feeling of belonging to a larger 'we' which is the essence in the social life. The mature individual is one, who finds that in his service to a larger 'we' lies his own success and development. This is to materialise not in a vague heavenly world or in a distant golden age, but here and now within the priceless heritage of a human form.

भारतीय संस्कृति

संस्कृति सर्वथा अविरोधी वास्तु है, यह सत्य की खोज मई शील की ध्वजा लेकर चलती है, विरोध और विरोधी शब्द उसके लिए अपरिचित है,भारतीय संस्कृति, पाश्चात्य संस्कृति आदि कहकर हम संस्कृति को खंडित करने का निरर्थक प्रयास करते है, सुसंस्कृत व्यक्तियों का एक ही वर्ग होता है और वो है मानव समुदाय। अत: उदात्तीकरण का नाम संस्कृति है, संस्कृति शब्द के पहले भारतीय या पाश्चात्य आदि विशेषणों को जोड़ने का यही अर्थ हो सकता है कि उक्त भू-खंड के साधको ने अभी तक सत्य के इतने ही अंश का साक्षात्कार किया है।
रहन-सहन, परिधान, व्यवहार आदि मई नवीनता अथवा किसी प्रकार कि सपेक्स विरूपता देखकर हम यह कहकर नाक भोंह सिकुड़ने लगते है कि यह तो पाश्चात्य संस्कृति कि का प्रभाव है, यह हमारी भारतीय संस्कृति पर कुठराघात है, हमारी संस्कृति ऐसी नहीं है आदि, इस प्रकार के कथन करते हुए हम कदाचित ही यह विचार करते हो कि संस्कृति कि अवधारणा क्या है और उसमे भारतीय शब्द जोड़ देने से हमारा अभिप्राय क्या रहता है।
संस्कृति मनुष्य कि विविध साधनाओ कि अंतिम परिणिति है, डॉ हजारी प्रसाद दिवेदी के शब्दों मे- 'मनुष्य कि श्रेष्ठ साधनाए ही संस्कृति है'। संस्कृति उस अवधारणा को कहते है, जिसके आधार पर कोई समुदाय विशेष जीवन की समस्याओ पर दृष्टी-निपेक्ष करता है। संस्कृति किसी समुदाय,जाति, देश अथवा राष्ट्र का प्राण या आत्मा होती है, संस्कृति द्वारा जाति , समुदाय , देश अथवा राष्ट्र विशेष के उन समस्त संस्कारो का बोध होता है, जिनके सहारे वह अपने आदर्शो , जीवन मूल्यों आदि का निर्धारण करता है।
भारतीय संस्कृति मे लोक-सिद्ध और शास्त्रैक समधीगम्य दोनों का समन्वय है, वह जीवन को पूर्णरूप मे देखने का प्रयत्न करती है तथा विश्व-ब्रम्हांड उसके निकट एक इकाई है, भारतीय आर्ष ऋषि ने अपने को पृथ्वी पुत्र कहा है और मन है की पृथ्वी मेरी माता है। भारतीय मनीषा के निकट पूर्व और पश्चिम, अपना और पराया जैसी वस्तु कभी नहीं रही? उसने- वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम की अवधारणा द्वारा अनुप्राणित होकर 'सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिन:' सर्वे सन्तु निरामय' की कामना कि। "भारतीय संस्कृति मे पृथकत्व का लेश-मात्र भी नहीं है, यह आध्यात्मिकता की अमर आधारशिला पर आधारित है."(स्वामी विवेकानंद)
भारतीय संस्कृति ने लोहे की विजय की बात कभी नहीं की। उसके सेवको ने सदैव प्रेम और बंधुत्व की बात की है।
भारतीय संस्कृति अभय की संस्कृति है, इसी से वह महान और अमर है।

महापुरुषो का अनुसरण कर बड़ा बनिए

बड़ा बनने के लिए हमें बड़े लोगो की भांति अच्छे गुणों का स्वयं मै विकास करना चाहिए, बेंजामिन फ्रेंकलिन का यह कथन हमारी प्रेरणा का अग्रदूत बन जाना चाहिए कि "अभी तक कोई भी व्यक्ति वास्तव मै महान नहीं हुआ, जो साथ ही साथ गुणवान न रहा हो," स्वेट मार्टेन ने भी महान बनने के लिए महान व्यक्तियों के गुणों को ग्रहण करने कि सलाह दी है, जिसके अनुसार, "मनुष्य उतना ही महान होगा जितना वह अपनी आत्मा मै सत्य, त्याग, क्षमा, दया, प्रेम, और शक्ति का विकास करेगा।"
महापुरुष जैसा आचरण करते है, दुसरे लोग उसी का अनुसरण करने लगते है, महाभारत ने धर्म का निरूपण करते हुए लोक व्यवहार कि दृष्टी से यह तथ्य प्रस्तुत किया था कि धर्म कि गति अत्यंत सूक्ष्म है, महापुरुष जिस मार्ग से गए है, वही श्रेयस्कर मार्ग है और हमें उसी का अनुसरण करना चाहिए - 'महाजनों एन गत: सा पन्था:'
प्रश्न यह उत्पन्न होता है कि महाजन अथवा महापुरुष किसको माना जाए? प्रत्येक मनुष्य का अपना विशिष्ट वयक्तित्व होता है, वह अपनी चेतना-विकास द्वारा ही अपने आदर्शो का निर्णय करता है इस दृष्टी से व्यक्ति विशेष ही महापुरुष होगा, तब क्या महापुरुष का मापदंड व्यक्ति सापेक्ष है?
महाजन या महापुरुष का एक सामान्य लक्षण है- कथनी और करनी के मध्य सामंजस्य-
कहते है महतजन पहले करके ही दिखलाते है।
कार्यसिद्धि करने से पहले बातें नहीं बनते है।
त्याग, तपस्या, सदाचार,आदि का उपदेश तो सभी देते रहते है, परन्तु अपने कथन के अनुसार आचरण बिरले जन ही करते है। सद्गुणों को धारण करने वाले महानुभाव ही समाज कि दृष्टी मै महापुरुष बनते है। क्योंकि वे महापुरुषों कि भांति आचरण करते है, कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि सामाजिक मान्यतानुसार श्रेष्ठ गुणों को धारण करने वाले व्यक्ति ही महापुरुष माने जाते है, अतएव महापुरुष के लक्षण सामान्यतः वस्तुगत होते है और महापुरुष सहज ही समाज कि श्रद्धा के पात्र बन जाते है।
महापुरुष का वयक्तित्व वस्तुतः सागर सदृश्य विशाल होता है। उसमे प्रत्येक जलधारा के लिए समान स्थान होता है, संस्कृत के कवि माघ ने कहा है कि 'महात्मा लोग शरणागत शत्रुओ पर भी अनुग्रह करते है, बड़ी नदियाँ अपनी छोटी सपली (छोटी-मोटी) पहाड़ी नदियों को भी समुद्र (अपने पति ) तक स्वयं मिलाती है।
महान पुरुष का अनुसरण करने वाला व्यक्ति अपनी महानता के प्रति जागरूक हो जाता है और वह असंभव प्रायः कार्य करने का साहस करते हुए भी संकोच नहीं करता है, श्रीराम के निरंतर संपर्क मे रहने वाले लक्ष्मण ब्रम्हांड को गेंद कि भांति उठा लेने के लिए सदैव प्रस्तुत रहते थे।
जैसे तारे टूट भस्म हो उज्जवल जग कर जाते।
वैसे महापुरुष खुद तपकर राष्ट्र सजग कर पाते।
वस्तुतः महान वह होता है जो त्याग करता है, जितना बड़ा त्यागी होगा, व्यक्ति उतना ही महान बन जायेगा, "महान त्याग द्वारा ही महान कार्य संभव है," (स्वामी विवेकानंद)
कविन्द्र रबिन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर ने एक सन्दर्भ मे लिखा है "कर्म मे रहकर ही हम कर्म से महान हो सकते है, परित्याग करके या पलायन करके किसी भी प्रकार यह संभव नहीं है।"
महापुरुष के अनुसरण का अर्थ उच्चादर्श का अनुसरण है। "इस संसार मे प्रत्येक वस्तु वट-बीज के समान है, जो यदपि देखने मे तो सरसों के दाने के समान लघु प्रतीत होता है, तथापि वह अपने भीतर विशाल वट वृक्ष को छिपाए रहता है," सचमुच महान वही है जो बीज कि संभावनाओ को परख कर प्रत्येक कार्य को महान बनाने मे सफलता
प्राप्त करके दिखा सके।

पहले कदम को सफलता की सीधी समझें

किसी भी लक्ष्य की और ले जाने वाली डगर पर एक के बाद दूसरा तीसरा आदि कदम उठाने पड़ते हैं | साथ ही रास्ते में मिलने वाले झाड़-झंकाड़ो को भी साफ करते रहना होता है | गरजती जल राशी की फेन उगलती हुई व्याल सदृश्य लहरे तथा घने जंगल मे वनराज की ह्रदय कंपा देने वाली दहाड़ जिसके कलेजे को नहीं कंपा सकती है , वही उस पर जाकर वीर और विजयी कहलाता है |हम किसी भी लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करना चाहे, पहली सीढ़ी को पार करना ही होगा। बड़े से बड़े विद्वानों ने भी प्रायमरी कक्षाओं मे ओलम एवम बारहखड़ी पढ़ी थी। आपको भी प्रतियोगिता की तैयारी का प्रारंभ प्राथमिक ज्ञान से ही करना होगा ।
ध्यातव्य यह है की एक ही छलांग मे सीधे उपर कोई नहीं पहुँच जाता है । सबको पहला कदम शुरू करना ही होता है । आरोही आग बड़ते हुए प्रत्येक कदम के साथ विजय की अनुभतिकरता है और पुरे उत्साह के साथ अपने लक्ष्य की और अग्रसर होता है। एवरेस्ट के प्रथम विजेता शेरपा तेनसिंह बताया करते थे की वे कितने प्रयत्नों के बाद अंतिम सीढ़ी पार कर पाए थे।
प्रतियोगिता छोटी हो या बड़ी, आपको अपनी तैयारी का आरम्भ प्राथमिक ज्ञान से ही करना होगा। याद रखिये- हर कदम पहला और आखरी होता है जिस कदम को उठाते समय आपका संकल्प दुर्बल होगा, आपका वही कदम डिग जायेगा और आपकी यात्रा का अंत हो जायेगा। यात्रा पूर्ण हुई बिना गंतव्य अथवा लक्ष्य की प्राप्ति कैसी ?
"Well begun is half done" अर्थात यदि आरंभ अच्छा हुआ तो समझिये की आप अपनी सामर्थ्य को दृस्तिगत करते हुए प्रतियोगिता का चयन करके पूरी निष्ठा एवं पुरे विश्वास के साथ अपने कार्य का शुभारम्भ कर दीजिये। यूनानी ज्ञान के के पितामह दार्शनिक प्लेटो का कथन है की " किसी कार्य का आरंभ उसका सबसे महत्वपूर्ण अंग होता है"
आप जर्मन दार्शनिक कवि गेटे के इस कथन से प्रेरणा ग्रहण कीजिये - " जिस काम को तुम कर सकते हो या कल्पना करते हो की तुम कर सकोगे, उसको आरंभ कर दो, साहस मे प्रतिभा, शक्ति और जादू है । सिर्फ काम मे जुट जाओ मस्तिष्क मे वेग आ जायेगा, आरंभ करो कार्य समाप्त होगा। याद रखिये A man can do, what a man has done. जो कार्य कोई मनुष्य कर चूका है उसको कोई भी मनुष्य कर सकता है।
भर्तहरी के अनुसार, "नीच लोग विघ्न के भय से कोई कार्य नहीं करते, मध्यम श्रेणी के लोग कार्य को आरंभ करके विघ्न पड़ने पर बीच मे छोड़ देते है, परन्तु उत्तम लोग बार बार विघ्न पड़ने पर भी आरंभ किये हुए कार्य को बीच मे नहीं छोड़ते",
अब आप उस स्थिति को प्राप्त होते है जब आपको लक्ष्य स्पष्ट दिखाई देने लगता है, यानि आप साक्षात्कार के लिए आमंत्रित किये जाते है, यह अवसर आपने कितने श्रम एवं प्रयास से प्राप्त किया है यदि आप इस तथ्य का स्मरण करते रहेंगे तो आपको घबराहट नहीं होगी। साक्षात्कर मे आपसे कुछ भी ऐसा नहीं पूछा जायेगा जो आपने पढ़ा नहीं अथवा आपको विदित नहीं है आप सफलता के प्रति आश्वश्त मन लेकर जाइये यह आपका अंतिम कदम होगा, यदि आप दृढ संकल्प के साथ आप यदि कदम बढ़ाते है तो सफलता आपका वरण कर लेगी।
वाल्तेयेर का यह कथन आपका मार्गदर्शक बन जा चाहिए- "प्यारे बेटे, इस संसार मे हम जो पहला कदम रखते है, यह वह कदम होता है जिस पर जीवन के शेष कदम निर्भर होते है।

Tips on Preparing for UPSC with General Studies (GS)

(GS) has to be prepared on quite a different plane because the content of this paper is too spread out and because any issue, major or minor, can be asked objectively. Traditionally, 10 + 2 level books of NCERT or any state education board had been covering a major part of the content but, these days, the items in news during the last one year or so, are being asked quite frequently. Problems are generally faced in everyday science (by the candidates with social sciences background) or in mental ability or in the fundamentals of economics. The most important aspect for the preparation of GS Prelims, therefore, is to identify the loop-holes and plug them urgently.

Many of you prepare a subject in terms of "reading" (once, twice, thrice etc.) with or without underlining the important facts. It results not only in longer time of preparation, but also many important points may skip. Also, even if you underline the highlighting points, most of you have the tendency to read the text in full while going for the subsequent readings. It is, therefore, advisable that texts must be read once and all important points (likely to be forgotten) recorded separately so that you need not study volumious texts again. This would save on your time and should result in greater efficiency. The Mains: For right approach, the preparation of Mains should start before or at least concurrent with Prelims. Just because you have to prepare for Essay, GS and the two optionals (English and a regional language, the one/two other compulsory, do not require a separate preparation) you never get enough time (to prepare for all these) after the declaration of Prelims' results. Further, while Prelims is only a screening test, it is on the basis of your performance in Mains, on which mainly depends the final outcome of your efforts. Strategically, therefore, the preparation for the examination should start about one year in advance and you should think about appearing in the Prelims only when you have had a strong grip over the Mains' subject matter.
